Weeks 25 & 26 2024-2025 in Review
These past two weeks have been eventful, filled with offerings, visitors, conversation, and ever more emerging life. In the garden we see the peas and radishes we've planted popping up sprouts. We also planted seed potatoes, which have been hotly anticipated. The upper canopy of the forest has begun to leaf out as well, just in time to provide cool relief as the days get hotter. The birds and frogs are singing, and snakes and skinks are slithering about. Our youngest learners reported some mystery life as well, a shadowed "figure" they've dubbed "Entity 303." They led a hunt for the unknown creature, but alas, to no avail.
Our offering lineup continues to swell, with many young people stepping forward to lead offerings. P led the group in foraging "Yard Salads" made from edible plants like violets, dandelions, and spring beauties, and whisked together a homemade dressing. R brought his drawing offering into the forest by The New Place for nature journaling, making use of the Sit Spots the group discovered in the fall. The "Singing and Dancing" group, led by A and E, has jumped into rehearsing their next number, "Cinderella Snapped." E's "Monologues" offering grew from cold-reading existing monologues to practicing writing our own. A launched "Songwriting," in which the group collaborates to write lyrics to what will be their own original song. In TCC Awesome Math, weโve bee playing with and exploring compasses, which has led to experimentation with drawing circles. The group immediately began using the tool to draw designs and had many cool noticings about the properties of circles in the process. The book club group completed "The Sapling Cage" with great emotion and satisfaction and eagerness for the sequels. This crew decided to write a card to the author to express our gratitude and ask when the next book may come out. We continued to make progress cleaning at The New Place. Also going on: forest explorations, chess, play with rope and knots, racing, trivia, independent reading, cast-signingโฆ and more!
Growth is in the air here.
It's underground as well.
The trees scattering seeds.
Milkweed sending up shoots.
What a joy and an honor it is, to grow here, and witness growth, alongside such incredible young people.
With gratitude and care,
Emily, Sarah, and Zoey
